Finance Associate

The Finance Associate will support financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, statutory compliance and financial analysis across Kura's operations.

About the role

Purpose

The Finance Associate provides timely, accurate and decision-useful financial and management information to support the planning, performance monitoring and control of the organisation and its funds/schemes. The role focuses on budgeting, forecasting, fund profitability analysis, cost control, fee and expense oversight, and strengthening internal controls in line with IFRS and applicable Ugandan regulatory and tax requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Budgeting and forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting process for the management company and support budgeting for funds, ensuring alignment to investment strategy, growth plans and regulatory constraints.
  • Management reporting: Prepare monthly/quarterly management accounts, dashboards and variance analysis - AUM, revenue, fee income, operating expenses, capex, headcount, highlighting trends, risks and corrective actions.
  • Fund and product profitability: Analyse fund-level and product-level profitability fee models, cost allocations, break-even analysis and provide recommendations on pricing, cost recovery, and operational efficiency.
  • Cost control and expense management: Implement cost controls, track cost drivers, monitor procurement spend, and ensure expenses are correctly coded and allocated between the management company and funds in line with governing documents.
  • Fee and expense oversight: Review investment management fees, performance fees and fund expenses to ensure accurate calculations, appropriate accruals and consistent treatment across funds.
  • Investment operations support: Partner with Investment/Operations teams to ensure complete and accurate capture of investment-related transactions, valuation inputs, and relevant accruals - interest, and unrealized/realized gains.
  • Statutory reporting support: Support preparation of financial statements in accordance with the reporting framework and schedules for audit; provide audit support and timely responses to auditor queries.
  • Tax and statutory compliance support: Support timely preparation/review of tax computations and statutory filings - PAYE, WHT, Income Tax, NSSF and maintain an up-to-date tax compliance calendar.
  • Stakeholder management: Coordinate with custodians, fund administrators, banks, consultants, regulators, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial information and timely responses.
  • Compliance: Contribute to a strong performance and compliance culture.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3–5 years' progressive experience in management accounting and financial planning & analysis, preferably within regulated financial services.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification or progress towards one is an added advantage.
  • Experience in accounting or finance.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
